Early Morning Breakfast:
In the earlier days , especially in Chennai erstwhile Madras, restaurants opened as early as 5.30 am. the smell of Pongal Idly vadai were incredible. There was this hotel in Luz Corner named Sukha Nivas, which served Kaduppu - part of the idly family but with a distinct taste of ginger and green chillies. Today I guess you get it only at Woodlands in Radhakrishnan Salai, or better known for being next to the famous Music Academy.

Leaving Chennai / Madras meant no more Pongal :(. But Idly Vada / Vadai can still be found in most restaurants in Mumbai and Pune.

Today with late nights dominating the larger part of our lives early morning breakfasts are practically out. Morning birdies seldom get to have a taste of outside food. There are the 5 stars that serves morning brunch, but what one really does want is to have a sumptuous desi breakfast.

The thelewala outside Ruby Hall Clinic Pune just fills that empty space. He has south Indian and local Maharstrian spread of Idly, Urid Vadai, Upma, Sabudhana Kichadi ( jawarsi upma) Vada Pav, Poha, (Avil Upma) sheera ( kesari) , vengaya pakoda and vengaya bhajji. Most of the items are served with sambhar chutney. He starts at around 7 am .He closes by 10.30 am. Idly lovers be early. His Idlis are over by 9 am.

So you have a morning craving for breakfast and if you happen live nearby Ruby Hall, go enjoy. It is a reasonably priced fair. A plate of Idli for Rs. 15, plate of Urid Vada for Rs.20 , Idly vada mix for Rs.20 .. . More of thelewala,s to follow
